KSDT Weekly Picks – 5/20/2016

Picks of the week

New Releases:

Mitski: Happy

Indie Rock, Singer-Songwriter

In Mitski’s new music video for Happy, there seems to be no clear cut message, unlike what she did in Your Best American Girl. She’s addressing happiness, which is a more abstract concept than her racial identity but the treatment the song gets on the video still seems racialized on some level. Let us know what you think it all means and call in this Wednesday from 10-11. -Fire: Back to The Future

Various artists: Day of the Dead

Psychedelic rock

This five hour monster of an album pays tribute to classic psychedelic band the Grateful Dead with an eclectic list artist that all bring their own unique personal approach to the sound of the Dead. –DJ Slater: The Brew, Friday @ 4

KSDT Picks: Sugaree(Phosphorescent & Jenny Lewis), Box of Rain(Kurt Vile & J Mascis), New Speedway Boogie(Courtney Barnett), Cumberland Blues(Charles Bradley & Menahan Street Band)  Morning Dew(The National)

Cool Void: June Delve EP

Seattle-based trio Cool Void releases their first 5-song EP featuring raw and heavy distortion, leading to a thick, cloudy sound. It gives off a somber mood without sacrificing rock energy in the process.  -Blind Louisiana Chapman: Guitarmonies, Friday @ 1

KSDT Picks: Honey Blonde, American Spirit Blues

KSDT Vinyl Library Rediscovery:

fIREHOSE: Ragin’, Full-On (1986)

Post-Punk, Indie Rock

In the first of many Mike Watt projects following the passing of Minutemen guitarist D Boon, fIREHOSE hit the scene with Ragin’,  Full-On, a fast, funky, and lyrical LP that brought together an array of musical styles to create a catchy yet challenging post-punk masterpiece. -Deejay X-Ray: Deejay X-Ray’s Wondrous Curiosity Hour, Tuesday @ 6

KSDT Picks: Brave Captain, Chemical Wire, It Matters, Another Theory Shot to Shit
